WHO ARE ALEX JAMES?

Alex James are the world's first DMD fronted rock band based in the North East of England made up of singer/guitarist Alex James Kennedy, lead guitarist Liam Mulpetre, bassist Chris McMahon and drummer Nathan Sharp. This emerging band has an accumulation of raw, electrifying rock and roll sounds that call to be played on repeat, taking influence from the likes of Royal Blood, The Black Keys, The Foo Fighters, QOTSA and The Pale White.

 

Frontman Alex James Kennedy formed the band back in 2019, as part of his Masters degree in Music at Newcastle University. However, what started out as a simple Punk-Rock cover band, turned into something much more meaningful and historical. Alex suffers from a rare, life-limiting muscle wasting condition known as Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), but turns this into a positive, channelling his pain into writing music, challenging the pre conceptions of rock music, bringing wheelchairs to the stage and advocating for better accessibility and representation for disabled performers in the music industry.




The band raises awareness of Duchenne and disability, inspiring others, highlighting the importance of improving accessibility and representation within the music scene and working with music venues to improve access whilst showing that someone with a life-limiting condition such as Duchenne can defy the odds and create a long-lasting legacy through music.
